Logic Analogies
Hegel’s Objective Logic as a tree:
- Quality - a leaf
- Quantity - the number of leaves
- Measure - the proportion of leaves to branches, to trunk, to seed, etc.
- Essence - the seed
- Appearance - the emergence of the tree from the seed
- Actuality - the genesis of the fruit on the branch, i.e. the return of the seed in the tree
Hegel’s Objective Logic as a programming language:
- Quality - variables, strings, data types (pure content)
- Quantity - numbers, decimals, numerical operators
- Measure - arrays, lists, sets
- Essence - functions (pure form)
- Appearance - objects, loops, control flow
- Actuality - classes, higher order functions, etc.
- Quality - boolean and conjunction (†, ¬, ∧, ∨)
- Quantity - arithmetic (+, -, ⋅, ÷)
- Measure - set theory and proportion (∪, ∩, :)
- Essence - identity and difference (=, ≠)
- Appearance - conditional (→), biconditional (↔︎)
- Actuality - possibility (◇) and necessity (□)
